The UN Secretary General’s special envoy on Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute was received by President Mustafa Akıncı this morning.
Lute, who is on the island for consultations with both leaders with a view to clinching an agreement on the terms of reference that will pave the way for the resumption of Cyprus talks met with President Akıncı at the Presidential Palace for nearly two hours.
The Presidential Spokesman Barış Burcu and the President’s Special Advisor on Diplomacy and EU Affairs Erhan Erçin were also present at the meeting.
The UN envoy made no statements to the press before or after the meeting.
Yesterday, the UN special envoy met with the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades for around two hours.
She left without making any statements.
The Greek Cypriot government spokesman Prodromos Prodromu said that it was a creative and productive meeting, both concerning the terms of reference but also critical issues concerning the Cyprus problem.
He said that Anastasiades would be holding a second meeting with Lute in the coming days and added that that Lute did not submit any documents.
Last week the UN Special Envoy had met with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara.
