A draft report prepared by the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) has called on Turkey to withdraw its troops from the island and to return the closed city of Maraş to its former inhabitants.
The draft, prepared by Ria Oomen-Ruijten, the European Parliament’s Turkey rapporteur, also called on the Greek Cypriot Side to enable Turkish Cypriots to conduct direct trade with the rest of the world.
The draft report which reiterates the European Parliament’s strong support for a just and viable solution for the two communities calls on Turkey to begin withdrawing its troops from the island and to return the closed city of Maraş.
Criticizing the failure of the implementation of the additional protocol to the customs union which envisages the entry into Turkish ports of Greek
Cypriot flagged vessels and aircraft, the report also calls on Turkey to stop preventing the Greek Cypriot Administration’s memberships to international organizations.
