The Tatlısu Municipality’s new town hall was inaugurated today with a ceremony.
The building which cost 730 thousand Turkish Liras to complete was inaugurated by President Derviş Eroğlu and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Sibel Siber.
Delivering the first speech at the inauguration ceremony, the Mayor of Tatlısu Ahmet Hayri Orçun expressed his belief that they will be able to provide better and faster service to their citizens with the new modern building.
Pointing out that most of the financing of the building’s construction was covered by the municipality’s own funds; Orçun said that the Turkish government had also contributed financially to the completion of the building.
He thanked the Turkish government for its contributions.
The Minister of Interior Teberrüken Uluçay who also addressed the ceremony said that his ministry was working hard to solve the problems of the municipalities.
He said that it was their responsibility to raise the revenues and standards of municipalities across the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Serdar Denktaş said that Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçun had been working hard for years to provide better service to the people in the area.
He said that Mayor Orçun had set an example to other municipalities in the country by solving the area’s infrastructural problems.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Sibel Siber said that the new town hall building was a demonstration of what the people of the TRNC could achieve if they set their minds to it.
She said that building was not only designed and constructed in harmony with the area’s geography and history but was also an important step towards further institutionalisation.
Delivering the final speech, President Derviş Eroğlu too praised the architecture of the building, stating that the new town hall stood as a testament of the achievements of the Turkish Cypriots since founding their own state.
“Too often we forget the sacrifices, the difficulties and hardships we had to endure to achieve what we have today” he said.
Eroğlu also underlined the importance of local administrations and wished the municipality continued success.
The ceremony came to an end with the cutting of the ribbon.
